As I sat and pondered the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, the Lord gave me some scriptures to for us at MBF to follow for the New Year. I hope this is a blessing to you.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (ESV) I know this is the pat scripture for everyone, this year it is time to get it off your wall, off your Facebook, off the magnet on the refrigerator, and put it in our hearts. As this New Year begins we need to begin with a trust in God that he knows what he is doing in our lives. This Word from God was not preserved as a cliché or a good slogan, but it is His actual words for you his child. We have to trust in it.
Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (ESV) Over this past year God has taught us some awesome new truths from His word. Now it is time to act on those truths. It is time for the new thing to spring forth in us as the scripture says. As those new truths spring for and become imbedded in our hearts, look at the promise God gives us. He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. If you felt like you were all alone in a wilderness in 2013 get ready for a way to be made for you. If you have felt dry and desolate get ready because the rivers of living water are being made to flow in your deserts. If I stopped there that would be enough to bring us into double portion blessings this year. But there is more.
Lamentations 3:22-24 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.” (ESV) I don’t believe I have ever preached from Lamentations but what a word for us in the New Year. His love never ceases, what we have been preaching here at MBF, the love of God never quits on us. And the ice cream on top of the cake is what we don’t deserve, what we cannot provide, and what we cannot attain; His mercy: never ends. We have got to put all our hope and trust in the fact that He is faithful and he is our provider. We must get the attitude of that little old grandmother on Christmas morning. As I was delivering the last of our gifts to the homeless children, she told me with tears running down her face; we don’t have any gifts for my grand babies. Then she went on to state, but I told them God would provide and he has. That attitude has got to overtake our human way of thinking, God will provide.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (ESV) There are some things that need to die in your life. Christ has made you a new creation start acting new. Stay away from the city dump in your life. What I mean by that is quit going back and finding all the old junk God has made new in your life. Some of us live at the dump, searching for any and all old stuff that kept us down. God has new stuff for you, LET IT GO!
Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (ESV) I have heard so many Christians say I am pressing but I cannot get anywhere. Then out of that same mouth they proclaim wrong that was done to them 30 years ago. Once you get out of the dump you also have to forget the past. There is a prize waiting on you and you have never attained it, not because you are not pressing, but because you are not forgetting. Forget the giants, the battles, the losses, and the hurt of 2013 and press towards that prize. It is waiting on you, let’s go get it!
